UW-Madison's Art Lofts Backspace Gallery presents the MFA 1st Year show from April 23 to May 12, 2023. The reception will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 5 p.m. The show features work by a diverse group of interdisciplinary artists, including Tamara McLean, a renowned graphic and web designer.
Tamara McLean's large-scale environmental design installations connect people with places to create an informed contemporary dialogue about the past and present. Her work is in the permanent collection of The Neville Public Museum, and she has exhibited regionally, including exhibitions at Evolving Graphic Design Symposium and SECAC Watershed.
McLean is a recipient of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Master of Arts Graphic and Web Design Merit Scholarship, IIDA Showroom and Large Booth Design Competition at NeoCon, AAF American Advertising Award Judge's Choice Award, and multiple AAF American Advertising Award Golds and Silvers. She is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Building on her installation work, McLean creates experiences that inform and entertain in galleries, museums, public spaces, and commercial interiors. Her skills include Adobe software, web development tools, and other design-related applications. She is a highly respected art director, graphic designer, and illustrator.
McLean's achievements include the 2023 University of Wisconsin School of Education-Art Department Grant Proposal for Augmented Reality for Graphic Design Course, the 2022 Minneapolis College of Art and Design Master of Arts Graphic & Web Design Merit Scholarship Award, and the 2020 AAF American Advertising Award Gold. She has also been a board member of several organizations and a member of various professional associations.
The MFA 1st Year show at the Art Lofts Backspace Gallery promises to be a unique and inspiring event that showcases the talents of emerging artists like Tamara McLean. The exhibition will provide an opportunity for visitors to experience the creative expressions of these artists, including McLean's thought-provoking installations.
