Artist's Statement
The theme of my 1st-year work in the MFA graduate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison can be defined as an exploration of time and place.
In the mixed media series titled "CMY", ephemeral items representing my graphic design background such as ink color swatches, grid paper, maps, photos, and transparency paper create layers hiding and revealing the past and present. Annotations with cyan blue ink denote my journey. This ink was chosen because of its place in graphic design history. Cyan ink was used to create printer notes on early advertising artboards because it was not seen by a photostat machine. By doing this I am subtly questioning if we see the work of women graphic designers in Wisconsin.
